This is the latest in a long (and growing) series of high value loudspeaker designs that seem to flow from Mr. The "hook", of course, is that it is designed by Andrew Jones, darling of loudspeaker design at both ends of the loudspeaker price spectrum (!) and - by all accounts, a really good guy, too. Here's the rest of the specs from ELAC's site.ĭimensions (WxHxD) : 7.69″ x 14.76″ x 10.55″ They're rated to be a nominally 6 ohm load (I haven't yet seen an impedance curve). The cabinet design is decidedly old school the genuine vinyl veneer gets a lot of snarky press, but to me they look fine and seem to be reasonably well made and well-finished (compare the ultra-cheap little Parts Express "B652-AIR", to see what a truly cheap speaker looks like). This awkwardly named little loudspeaker (the more expensive ELAC loudspeakers seem to have more aesthetic names and faces, interestingly enough) is a ported two way using (it is said) proprietary drivers and a fancy-ish crossover. The vote's still out, but, with probably about 30 hours of "burn in" time on them, and a couple of false starts, I think I can finally offer a worthwhile opinion based on what I'm hearing as of mid January 2019. I picked up a pair to see whether, at that doorway price, they were worthy Doorway loudspeakers. Recognizing that in a multi-channel system the majority of sound comes through the center speaker, we have optimized sensitivity and impedance to minimize the power requirement from the AV receiver, maximizing dynamic impact from lower cost receivers. This is current incarnation of (I believe) the entry level ELAC two-way "Andrew Jones" loudspeaker.īefore Christmas 2018, these were on sale for $150 the pair - half of their list price. On the Bookshelf and Center Channel, moving the bass port to the front of the cabinet means placement against walls or in bookshelves won’t compromise performance. ![]() Thick MDF cabinets with a luxurious black ash vinyl finish are larger, and internally braced for greater stiffness and strength, greatly reducing cabinet vibrations which cause unwanted coloration. The added strength allows more flexibility in design to achieve a smoother, extended low-frequency response. The revised shape of the aramid cone offers even greater stiffness and damping, far superior to polypropylene or paper. The waveguide improves directivity control and eliminates the diffraction modes inherent in traditional box enclosures. New Tweeter with Wide-Dispersion WaveguideĪ new silk-dome tweeter features a wide-roll surround and takes response up to 35,000 Hz for even more lifelike high frequencies. Redesigned from the ground up, they sound even more remarkable than the speakers that sparked the revolution in high-end sound. ![]() What competition it has starts at many times its price.ĭebut “changed the game,” and now it’s changed again with the Debut 2.0 Series-proof that ELAC can’t leave well enough alone. But constant improvement is what we do at ELAC, and the Debut B6.2 raises the bar for bookshelf performance higher than ever before. Improving on the B6-a speaker with accolades from the global press and awards from industry professionals-was not an easy task.
